Wadi Bany Auf is a brilliant place to visit in Oman, especially if you’re a fan of off-road driving adventures. The area is a truly beautiful place, with scenery like no other. Located near Rustaq , the popular climbing, walking , and camping hotspot in Oman is becoming increasingly popular amongst tourists, and the word is quickly spreading.
As soon as you drive into Wadi Bany Auf, it will become apparent just how amazing the area is. Palm trees tower up into the beautiful blue sky, and mountains gauge the road. Wadi water can be viewed in some places, and the rocky road is very clear.
As you drive deeper into the area, it’s not odd to bump into a stubborn goat that hovers in front of the car, toying with you. Almost as if the goat is testing whether you will run it over! The road runs through the local village, and I think that politeness to the locals is a must. They are extremely friendly and welcoming to tourists, imagine yourself in the scenario of living in a popular tourist hotspot, and cars ploughing through as if there were no tomorrow – would you like it ?
You’ll bump into tourists that have gone to the Wadi to camp out, and its an all too familiar scene to see tents pitched, and chairs left out at a nearby BBQ – awaiting the owner to come back from their hike to start up a bbq.
The mountains are very high up – and if you drive past Wadi Bany Auf you’ll come to an area called al hamrya. Beware, it’s not a place for the faint hearted, and you must have an eye for heights! Not to mention experience with off road driving or it could end up messy. It’s a road way to get your adrenalin pumping for sure.
Irts important to make sure that you take a mobile phone along with you , not to mention extra food supplies, a spare tyre , and preferably head out to the area with a group of more than 1 car, this ill ensure that should your car pack in , you have back up. Taxis won’t quite reach it up the mountain face
I also think that there’s no mobile phone signal in some places. The best time to visit this hot spot is winter (nov / dec/ jan when the heat is down, and walking will be bearable , should you wish to explore the area on foot.
You defiantly will need to plan your trip well in advance …….. Where’s the pictures of Wadi Bany Auf Oman ? I know what you are thinking! I left my bloody camera at home, although I will be venturing back to the area soon to post some lovely Wadi Bany Auf pictures !
Note – The road past Wadi bany Auf can also take you to take you to Jebel Shams, and Al Hoota Cave. ….. I am planning a camping trip there so piccys will be provided !
