Oman Air is the national airline for Oman. Oman Air is based in Muscat, Oman and offers scheduled domestic and international flights, providing that the flight that you are opting to catch suits your destination preferences. The airline is also a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization and is currently the best way to come and visit Oman.
First established in 1981, Oman Air has been providing passengers with an enjoyable experience for the course of 28 years. However, despite its official start date, Oman Air did not start opening its doors to the public until 1993. When the airport was established, its sole purpose was to provide assistance for Government officials from Oman. However, now everyone can enjoy this impressive airport as either your final destination or a conjoined airline to another location.
The airline was formed as a result from a merger agreement between the former Gulf Air light aircraft division and Oman International services. Presently Oman Air goes by their name Oman Aviation Services, but many people just utilize the term Oman air for a shorter version of the full name.
Oman Air is considered a parent company to their Government. In fact, the Government of Oman owns 97.6% stake in the company. The other 2.4% is owned by private investors. As one can imagine, the Oman government not only wants to be able to ride in the best aircraft that the company can supply, they also want passengers and tourists to be able to do the same as well.
In fact, a lot of people are able to obtain cheap tickets in Oman because there is no actual middle man between the purchaser and the Government. Realistically speaking, when a governing body owns almost the entire stake in a company, your solely dealing with them for the most part, so tickets are able to stay at a lower rate because the presence of millions of other investors are not prominent.
In 2007, the airline was recapitalized by the Omani government. When the government decided to have a say in the airline, it was on the agreement that their stake in the services would increase, and so as of 2007 the government went from a 30% stake in the airline to an 80% stake. As of May 2009, they took over 97.6% stakes in the airline.
Oman Air commenced in its first major flight on November 26, 2007. The flight was set to stop off at both Bangkok and London. The arrival of new aircraft gave Oman Air the opportunity to expand their airline and introduce more flight plans for people that are interested in visiting this Arabian naturalized country.
The airline has plans to begin flying in Frankfurt, Munich, and Paris. There have also been some talks about Oman Air traveling to South Asia as well. As of May of 2009, it was reported that Oman Air commences in 267 flights every week. These flights include 32 different destination spots and 18 different countries that the aircraft is allowed to land at.
