Camping In Oman
After a recent trip to Wadi Bany Awf , we decided to try camping in Oman. To be honest we have lived out here for ages, yet never seemed to have camped outside! I’m not the best planned traveller, and organisation really isn’t my middle name. We winded up heading down to the local Carrefour in Qurum City Centre, buying a special offer 12 rial tent, and heading out on a journey to what we planned to be a 2 day trip…….
We followed the directions alright, right at Wadi Adai roundabout, followed the road towards Amarat , then Quriyat , I was feeling quite proud of myself ! The very fact that I managed to get us to places that were described in our tour book was an accomplishment for me. We ended up at Mizarah next to the little shop that’s described in the map !
Anyway after that we kind of lost track, we took a right after the shop and winded up at what seemed to be the local campsite. There were heaps of people there with their tents, and the whole concept of out back touring in Oman seemed to have been flushed down the toilet for me. My hubby seemed to think that because there were people there that it would be Ok !
Although I’m not personally a people follower. We winded up with our BBQ , attempted to put the tent up – only to find that the silly people at Carrefour hadn’t put in the poles to hold the damn thing up. Anyway it was great! There was a Wadi in front of where we were, the kids splashed around whilst we relaxed and made a BBQ.
We sat until the sun went down, and unfortunately had to jump back into the car and head home. We now have our tent, and plan on going back to camp one day soon ! Mizarah is a great place to go for the night, its amazing the Al Hajar Mountains can be seen, and it’s very eerie the way they tower above you. It’s a perfect place to camp out and relax (providing your tent has poles !!) Yes and as you can tell I forgot the camera too , although I did take a couple of pics on my phone , should I be able to figure out how to load them here, or even find the wire that does the trick !
I honestly do plan on sticking a heap of pictures here sometime soon , and will be going back to click , click , click. Camping in Oman certainly has to be well planned though, as the shops are closed between 1 and 4-4.30. After that you could wind up stuck without provisions, if your destination is far away from the shops. Another tip I realised that we hadn’t taken a torch with us Always remember your torch !! Candles wont suffice especially with the canvas
